Site Overview
The Center for Marine Studies (CMS), which opened in March, 2007, is situated on the campus of the Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience on the beautiful eastern shore of the Intracoastal Waterway, south of St. Augustine, Florida. The two story CMS is an ideal venue for receptions, concerts, meetings, seminars and retreats, with breath-taking views on its north and west sides. A reception area, catering kitchen, classrooms and a 272-seat auditorium are available for rent.

Whitney Hall, the Lab’s original conference center built in 1976, is available for rent at no cost.

The Marineland Dolphin Conservation Center is located directly across from the Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience.

Facility Details
The two-story Center for Marine Studies provides 17,000 square feet of space with an elevator;

  • The Lohman Auditorium features 272 comfortable seats with state-of-the-art audio and visual equipment;
  • The Lastinger Family Foundation Interactive Area, a reception hall, features a two-story atrium overlooking the beautiful Intracoastal Waterway;
  • The Jo Ann Lohman Volunteer Lounge offers a full kitchen, available to a caterer;
  • The Strickland Family Conference Room is fully equipped for video conferencing;
  • An upper level classroom is equipped with an LCD projector and screen;
  • The Newman Family Reading Room overlooks the reception area with views of the Intercoastal Waterway;
  • The CMS is equipped with locker and shower facilities.

Rental Agreement
Renters will be responsible for coordinating event catering, hotel accommodations and transportation. Should the use of a rental company for tables, chairs and/or linens be required, a list of vendors familiar with the facility will be provided.

The Whitney Lab will ensure audio/visual equipment is ready for use. Our event coordinator will be happy to provide on-site assistance during the rental period.

A reservation deposit equal to 50% of the rental fee is required at time of booking. The remainder of the rental fee is due seven days prior to the event.
