Whitney on the River Event Raises Money for Educational Programs
In its inaugural year, the fall fundraiser Whitney on the River welcomed more than 60 people to celebrate Whitney Laboratory’s commitment to science education. The event, held on Oct. 29, 2015, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the St. Johns River Center in Palatka, raised funds for the laboratory’s K-12 education programs, such as A Day at the Whitney and Traveling Zoo. The programs focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics education for students from seven area counties, including a third grade initiative in Putnam County. This year, more than 90 students from Putnam County’s third grade classes experienced the Traveling Zoo.
The corporate sponsors included Florida Power and Light, Seminole Electric Cooperative, Inc., Capital City Bank, Carr Riggs & Ingram, United Way of Putnam County and Harbor Community Bank. Additional sponsors included Norma Dunn, Irving and Norlene Roberts, Browning Consulting, Riverfront Development Group, June Stoeber, Anand and Sheila Kuruvilla, Roxane and John Kennedy, Geri and Bob Melosh, Reef Life Aquatic, and William Jeter and Deanne Clark.
Thank you to everyone who participated in Whitney on the River. The goal is to continue this event for years to come.
