Sea Turtle Patient Goya Release Thursday, September 2

Sea Turtle Patient Goya Release Thursday, September 2

Published: Wednesday, September 1, 2021

We are excited to announce that we will release Goya on Thursday, September 2 at 1 p.m. at the beach side of River to Sea Preserve Boardwalk (Marineland Beach) in the town of Marineland, Florida.

Goya arrived on April 2 from Crescent Beach and is our 65th patient of 2021. Upon arrival, she was thin and had 90% of her carapace (shell) covered in epibiota (organisms that live on turtles). Her blood glucose was low and we were suspicious of sepsis. After intensive care including antibiotics, fluid therapy, and vitamin supplements she started to gain weight and was ready for surgery. While in our care Goya had four Fibropapilloma (FP) tumor removal surgeries and was transported to Precision Imaging twice for routine CT imaging. Which now brings us to today, she has been cleared from Dr. Brooke and received her swimming papers for release tomorrow!

If you plan to attend the release, we recommend that you arrive early and also bring water, sunscreen and a hat. To make a gift to help us care for sick and injured sea turtles just click below. See you on Thursday for the release of Goya!
