Sea Turtle Colonel Released

Sea Turtle Colonel Released

Published: Tuesday, August 1, 2023

Sea Turtle Hospital patient Colonel received her swimming papers and had a private release on July 20 at Toronita Avenue Beach Park in Wilbur-By-The-Sea, Florida.

Colonel arrived at the Sea Turtle Hospital on January 24 as a transfer from Volusia Marine Science Center. Colonel was found floating at the surface in Ponce Inlet (about 1.5 hours south of our hospital). Colonel was rescued and taken to Volusia Marine Science Center, which is located near Ponce Inlet . It was there that the veterinary care team identified small Fibropapilloma (FP) tumors along the inguinal and axillary region. Volusia Marine Science Center typically does not treat animals with FP, so Colonel was transported to our hospital for continued care and to receive treatment for the FP tumors. She remained “tumor free” after her last FP tumor removal surgery on May 3rd. Her incision sites were all healed, and no evidence of new growth or re-growth was identified.
