Bailey-Niblett Family Endowment Helps Fund Trip to Applied Hologenomics Conference

The Bailey-Niblett Family Endowment recently helped fund Dr. Federica Montesanto's trip to the Applied Hologenomics Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The objective of the Applied Hologenomics conference 2024 was to highlight key discoveries and novel approaches that aim at understanding the interactions of plant and animal hosts with their associated microbial communities, which could be directly or potentially applied into management and practice.

"Upon returning from the Applied Hologenomics Conference (AHC) 2024, supported by the Bailey-Niblett Travel Endowment, I have gained valuable knowledge and insights for my research on cnidarian-symbiosis," said Dr. Montesanto. "The hands-on workshops provided practical skills in hologenomics techniques, which I can now apply to studying host-microbe interactions in coral systems. Participating in panel discussions and roundtable sessions on coral systems offered a better understanding of current research methodologies and challenges. The keynote speeches from experts were informative and relevant to my work. This experience has improved my research capabilities and expanded my network within the research community, contributing to efforts in protecting coral reefs."

Dr Montesanto is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Whitney Laboratory Loesgen Lab. The Bailey-Niblett Family Endowment assists in funding for research projects and travel for graduate students, postdoctoral research associates and pre-tenured faculty at the Whitney Laboratory. Thank you to the Bailey-Niblett Family Endowment for providing funding for this opportunity!
