Liao Lab welcomes Dr. Ishani Mukherjee

Please welcome Dr. Ishani Mukherjee to the Whitney Lab. She joins the Liao Lab as a Postdoctoral Research Associate.

Ishani Mukherjee is set to commence her postdoc on fish schooling at the Liao Lab in July 2024. Ishani did an integrated Master's in Biotechnology at St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, India, from 2013 to 2018. Her Master’s dissertation project on information use during nest relocation by ant colonies motivated her to pursue a PhD in Behavioral Ecology. From 2019 to 2024, she conducted her doctoral research on wild zebrafish schools under the guidance of Prof. Anuradha Bhat at the Fish Ecology and Behaviour Lab at IISER Kolkata, India.

Ishani’s doctoral thesis focuses on the ecological drivers of schooling behavior among wild zebrafish schools and mixed-species schools comprising zebrafish and co-occurring species. Her interests include evolutionary biology, group behavior, and understanding mechanisms that drive behavioral changes. As a postdoc, Ishani is eager to address impactful questions on fish schooling and broaden her expertise through interdisciplinary research at the Liao Lab.
