Liao Lab Welcomes Dr. Zihao Huang

Please welcome Dr. Zihao Huang to Whitney Laboratory! He joins the Liao Lab as a Postdoctoral Research Associate.

Zihao pursued his undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh, where he developed interests in simulations including computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element analysis (FEA). After graduating in 2015, he continued to pursue a Master's degree at the University of Virginia to further study simulation methods, which inspired him to study realistic bio-inspired flow. He then extended his work to pursue a Ph.D. at the University of Virginia under the advisory of Dr. Haibo Dong. During his Ph.D., he focused on the hydrodynamics of fish schooling across various species, categorizing by the body-fin arrangement and swimming kinematics, while extending his field to the low-Reynolds number flow in cilium, to the high-Reynolds number flow in Beluga cow-calf pair. This has fostered his interest in marine biology. As a postdoc, Zihao is excited to apply his skills to learn from flow physics in different scales, exploring the flow sensing in fish schooling, and broadening his expertise from numerical to experimental.

Outside the lab, he likes outdoor activities such as backpacking and hiking. He also likes to shoot photos when he has leisure time.
