Researching Seagrass Dynamics with the St. Johns River Water Management District

From January to September 2025, Whitney Laboratory graduate student Harrison Hobbs worked with the St. Johns River Water Management District to investigate a spontaneous seagrass recovery in Florida’s Mosquito Lagoon observed in winter 2023.

During this internship, his research explored the drivers behind this event, providing key insights into water quality/seagrass population dynamics, restoration stressors, and future management strategies for the Indian River Lagoon. "I learned more about seagrass growth dynamics during this internship than I could have in years of classes," said Harrison.
