Summer Education Internship
An internship with the Education Department at the Whitney Laboratory is designed to give students or recent graduates real world experience in an informal education setting. Areas of exposure include science communication, the application of inquiry-based learning, advanced marine science topics, student management techniques, the care and use of marine invertebrates in education, and an introduction to integrating real time scientific discoveries with public education.
Students interested in interning with the Education Department should be working towards a degree in Education, Marine Science, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field. Regardless of major, applicants should have an interest in bridging scientific ideas and concepts with public education.
Recent graduates seeking experience in these fields are also encouraged to apply.

Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recent graduate from a college or university
- Available to work from mid-May through July 3, 2026 (approximately 7 weeks, dates may vary slightly)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to work independently.
- Interns must successfully pass a level 2 DCF background check and must complete youth compliance and other required in-house trainings.
Duties
Under the direction of staff, the summer intern will work to prepare, deliver, and evaluate STEM summer camps. Intern will work with students from 4th-12th grade in Sea Turtle Camp (elementary school), Science Minds Camp (middle school), and SHORE Academy Camp (high school). Intern may also take part in an adult community education program. Intern may participate in professional development activities, such as staff meetings, in-house trainings, seminars, and resume-building experiences. Intern will be responsible for completion of a poster to present at the end of their internship.

Applicants will be notified through email if invited for the interview phase. This is an unpaid, up to 40 hour per week internship. Housing and living expenses are not included, however, onsite housing is available for a discounted fee.
