Loesgen Lab Welcomes Joe Mangun

Published: Monday, July 1, 2024

Please welcome Joe Mangun to the Whitney Laboratory! Joe joined the Loesgen Lab to investigate the bioactivity of compounds isolated from marine bacteria while pursuing a Ph.D. in chemical biology.

He recently completed a B.S. in biochemistry from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where he spent three years researching the antimicrobial activity of plants with an emphasis on Cannabis sativa. This research led to the isolation and characterization of a compound previously unknown to possess anti-MRSA activity.

Outside of the lab, Joe likes kayaking, volleyball, and listening to live music, especially jazz.
