Please welcome Dr. Ferhat Karakas to Whitney Laboratory! He joins Dr. James Strother's lab as a Postdoctoral Research Associate.

Dr. Karakas received his bachelor’s and master’s degree in Aeronautical and Aerospace Engineering from Istanbul Technical University, Turkey, in 2014 and 2016, respectively. He completed his PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 2020 under the mentorship of Prof. Murphy at the University of South Florida and studied the fluid dynamics of swimming by pteropods with shells of different sizes and shapes. He is fascinated by how the animals take advantage of the fluid motion and looking forward to study the novel biomechanics of filter feeding. Dr. Karakas is interested in biological fluid mechanics in general and is looking forward to gaining new insights and technologies at Whitney Laboratory.
