The Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience
Dr. Nick Ward joins the University of Florida Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience as a Research Scientist in the Osborne Lab. He received a B.S. in Environmental Systems at the University of California, San Diego while studying linkages between molecular biology and marine geochemistry as a research assistant at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography and an NSF REU at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. He completed a M.S. and Ph.D. in Chemical Oceanography at the University of Washington where he studied aquatic carbon cycling processes across the continuum from land to sea in the Pacific Northwest; Espírito Santo, Brazil; and the Amazon River.
Nick previously worked as a postdoc at the University of Florida Department of Geological Sciences with Dr. Thomas Bianchi. At UF he continued ongoing work in the Amazon River along with new studies in unique ecosystems throughout Florida such as the Big Cypress National Preserve, Apalachicola Bay, and the Suwannee River estuary. Nick is excited to explore the biogeochemical and microbial dynamics occurring in his new backyard at the Whitney Lab and further understand the role that Florida’s diverse ecosystems play in global and regional environmental cycles.
