June 13 Evenings at Whitney - Movie Night "A Plastic Ocean" with Panel Discussion for Whitney Laboratory's World Sea Turtle Week

The University of Florida Whitney Laboratory will hold a special Evenings at Whitney on Thursday, June 13, 2019. As part of Whitney’s World Sea Turtle Week events, Whitney Laboratory will show the movie, “A Plastic Ocean”, in the Lohman Auditorium with a panel discussion to follow. This Evenings at Whitney will have an earlier start time of 6 p.m.

“A Plastic Ocean” is an award-winning documentary that investigates plastic waste’s environmental impacts in the world’s oceans. At the conclusion of the showing, a panel of experts will share their thoughts and takeaways and take question and answers from the audience. Guests are encouraged to bring their own reusable water bottle to keep the event green.

The free movie will be shown at the Center for Marine Studies Lohman Auditorium, located at 9505 Ocean Shore Blvd., on the Whitney Laboratory campus. The movie showing was made possible by Smith, Gambrell & Russell LLP and the U.S. Green Building Council. This is the last date in the spring season of the Evenings at Whitney Lecture Series. The Evenings at Whitney Lecture Series will return in the fall with lectures from September through December.

The Whitney Laboratory Sea Turtle Hospital along with Sea Turtle Conservancy will also hold Sea Turtle Discovery Day at the Whitney Laboratory on Saturday, June 15.

Sea Turtle Discovery Day will be from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. in the Whitney Laboratory Center for Marine Studies building and Sea Turtle Hospital Discovery Room. The family friendly event will have interactive discovery stations to learn about sea turtles, our research and conservation efforts as well as merchandise to purchase to support the Hospital.
