Welcome to Whitney Laboratory, Nicole!

Nicole is a senior microbiology major at the University of Florida with a passion for the ocean, science, and surfing. She plans to attend graduate school in pursuit of a degree in biomedical science. Ultimately, her goal is to attain a Ph.D. and conduct research for academia or industry.

Throughout her academic career, Nicole has worked at the UF Entomology & Nematology Department with Dr. James Cuda to investigate biological control agents of invasive plant species in Florida waterways. She has also volunteered with Dr. Phillip Kaufman to help assess the prevalence of ehrlichial and rickettsial pathogens in ticks and wildlife throughout Florida. She is now joining the Whitney team and will be working in Dr. Martindale’s laboratory to help investigate the evolutionary history of the establishment of cell polarity during animal development.
