Please welcome Leandra Toledo to the Whitney Laboratory!  She recently joined the Ryan Lab as a student researcher.

Leandra Toledo is a 1st-generation undergraduate senior at the University of Florida, obtaining a B.S. in Biology and a minor in Economics. She plans on either attending Veterinary school or acquiring a Ph.D., pursuing small animal practice, or her interests in microbiology and marine science, respectively.

She just recently completed the NSF-REU program here at Whitney working in the Ryan Lab studying the population dynamics and adaptations of Mnemipsis leidyi. She will continue to apply her computational skills learned to further these studies and more.

Previously, she worked as a veterinary assistant where she held small-animal (cats) patients for exams, took vitals, and presented initial assessments to the doctor. Before that, she also volunteered at the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science in the McDonald Lab where she cleaned tanks of toadfish and was able to shadow ongoing experiments.

In her free time, she enjoys playing with her dog, going on hikes, and spending time with friends and family.
