Ryan Lab welcomes Natalia Padillo-Anthemides

Published: Tuesday, January 3, 2023

Please welcome Natalia E. Padillo-Anthemides to the Whitney Laboratory! She recently joined the Ryan Lab as a Ph.D. student through the Genetics & Genomics program.

Natalia received her B.S. in Marine Biology from Florida International University, where she focused on marine eco-physiology, biogeochemistry, and genetics, amongst other topics (like Middle Eastern and East Asian studies!).  She completed an NSF-REU in 2020 at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences, contributing to creating a model for diurnal oxygen-carbon dynamics for the application to the carbon budget of coral reefs.  She also worked with the Seagrass Ecosystems Research Laboratory (SERL), assisting long-term ecological research projects in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary & Florida Bay with seagrass elemental content analyses in the lab.  Natalia will be studying the genomics of neurons in ctenophores in order to better understand the evolution of nervous systems in animals.

Outside the lab, Natalia enjoys surfing, baking, dancing, and keeping active outdoors.
