Sea Turtle Patients Artichoke and Granny Smith to be Released Thursday, July 14

Published: Tuesday, July 12, 2022

We are excited to announce that Artichoke and Granny Smith plan to be released on Thursday, July 14 at 11:00 a.m. at the beach side of River to Sea Preserve Boardwalk (Marineland Beach) in the town of Marineland, Florida. Both animals are happy, heathy, and ready to return home to their ocean home!

A note about Artichoke: Artichoke has been in our care for a year and five months, so we are very excited to share and celebrate her release. Since she is an amputee and has been with us for so long, we are currently keeping a watchful eye on weather conditions, including tides and currents. Artichoke needs calm waters for a successful release. Therefore, if the weather conditions change as they quickly can in Florida, her release will be postponed until weather permits.

If you plan to attend the release, we recommend that you arrive early and also bring water, sunscreen and a hat. Please come with smiles, posters, and happy wishes!

If you are unable to attend we will be on Facebook Live for the release as well. Thank you again for your support of our patients and the Sea Turtle Hospital - we couldn’t do what we do without your support! See you on Thursday for the release of Artichoke and Granny Smith!

Following the release our education shed / gift shop will be open to meet our staff and shop. We have several new items (Turtle Pins! Plastic Free Pack! New Shirt Colors!). Stop by or shop our online store.
