Please welcome Dr. Linlin Zhang to Whitney Laboratory!
Linlin is an evolutionary biologist fascinated by animal diversity. Her research combines both experimental and computational approaches to investigate molecular genetic mechanisms of phenotypic divergence and adaptation.
She received her BSc from Ocean University of China, and PhD from Chinese Academy of Sciences. For her PhD research with Dr. Guofan Zhang, she studied origins of genetic novelty in oysters, and asked how does gene duplication contribute to stress adaption. Linlin did her previous postdoc with Dr. Robert D. Reed at Cornell University, where she worked on how co-option contributes to color pattern diversity in butterfly wings. Linlin now joins the Seaver lab as a Postdoctoral Associate where she plans to investigate the developmental genetic basis of annelid regeneration evolution.
