We are pleased to announce that Patrick Thompson has joined Whitney Laboratory as our new operations manager. Patrick will be managing our fiscal, human resources and other key operations and planning responsibilities for the lab.

Patrick worked at the University of Florida in the College of Veterinary Medicine as a Biological Scientist for the Aquatic Animal Health Program from March 2011 and then in 2015 moved to the Wildlife Aquatic & Veterinary Disease Laboratory. In January 2017, he began working as Scientific Laboratory Manager in the Clinical Sciences Research Laboratory. He served as leader of the department’s laboratory scientist and laboratory technician group, holding monthly meetings and annual trips fostering collaboration and collegiality among a diverse group of laboratory personnel while working for a diverse group of faculty/project investigators in a multitude of research endeavors. During this time, he was working to complete his master's degree in business administration with a specialty in project management.

Patrick has a high level of energy and dedication to his work and has previous research experience in molecular biology, next-generation sequencing, virology, histology, cell culture, ISH and has animal experience with aquaculture, cetaceans, manatees and sea turtles. Patrick has also worked with partners to have an aquatic system designed, water chilling and heating and disinfection systems implemented. With this broad background, he hopes to be able to assist faculty researchers to move their laboratory forward by supporting the team with the multiple facets that are continually evolving here at Whitney Lab.

Patrick’s family (wife, 7-year-old boy, 5-year-old girl, one 80 lb puddle of love) has fully moved to the St. Augustine area and has been enjoying the local offerings that include beach activities, kayaking and touring local ice cream shops.
