On Sunday, November 28 Whitney Laboratory collaborated with Black In Marine Science (BIMS) for a beach clean up with over 347 pounds of trash collected!
This event was part of a day-long event by BIMS to host beach cleanups across the globe and it kicked off the first day of BIMS Week. BIMS wants to show the world that Marine Science is Lit, while also making connections and contributing to the health of the marine environment that we work in and love.
Thanks to those who helped coordinate - Joe Ryan, Jessica Long, Ellie Padgett, Adam Pacetti, Gail White, Todd Osborne, and Adania Flemming at the UF Museum of Natural History.

We got a good haul from the first site the captains had spotted for us on one of the islands/islets. Everyone got to working here cleaning up all things big and small. #BIMSSweepsTheBeach @BlackinMarSci for #BIMSWeek! pic.twitter.com/OPIbgPCb14

Our trash was weighed as we moved it from the boat to the truck to be dumped into a dumpster. #BIMSSweepsTheBeach @BlackinMarSci for #BIMSWeek! Thanks @Whitney_Lab for collaborating on a worthwhile super fun adventure! pic.twitter.com/qPtldjPXc7
