Whitney Staff & Volunteers Help Recover Oyster Gardens After Hurricane Matthew

Published: Thursday, November 10, 2016

The Whitney Oyster Restoration Initiative began its program this past September with 53 oyster gardeners. These citizen scientists hung two oyster habitats filled with baby oysters from their docks and began recording data and watching their babies grow. Then came Hurricane Matthew. Since then, Whitney staff and volunteers have been busy retrieving the oysters and/or habitats. Thank you to our employees and volunteers for their commitment to the initiative.
