IDEA GOALS AND METRICS 2021–2022

GOAL Create reporting protocol - Provide a compiled and easy to follow source for Whitney lab members to follow when reporting a wide array of complaints, concerns, issues, etc.
METRICS Flow chart created. People within the resource know their roles. Responses to future climate surveys (especially 2022 and 2023) reflect demonstrated progress.

GOAL Create IDP and informal mentoring program - Create an IDP template that can be used across labs and career stages at Whitney. Create an informal, lunch mentoring program.
METRICS IDP template was created. IDP was shared with and presented to each laboratory. IDP was implemented across all laboratories. Lunch mentorship program was implemented and is set up for continuous success. Responses to future climate surveys (especially 2022 and 2023) reflect positive attitudes towards the change.

GOAL Host Training. Host a professional development workshop focused on creating an inclusive environment at Whitney Lab.
METRICS The training occurred. Attendance percentage was higher than the previous year. An assessment of the training issued to attendees. The assessment was reviewed by the IDEA committee and used in planning the 2023 training.

GOAL Create welcome/onboarding documents. The documents include sections that will be broadly useful to new community members relocating to the area. The address issues relevant to diverse Whitneyites in all career and life stages, with special attention to international arrivals. The document includes information related to the mission of the IDEA committee, summary of the activities of the IDEA committee including reporting and annual climate survey.
METRICS Onboarding booklet created and updated yearly. Onboarding booklet given to all new community members. Responses to future climate surveys (especially 2022 and 2023) reflect positive attitudes towards the change.

GOAL Create official exit process protocol and update the exit interview materials. This protocol will include an assessment of topics related to the mission of the Whitney Lab's IDEA committee.
METRICS Exit protocol created. Supplemental exit interview materials created and consistently used.

GOAL Climate survey. Conduct a Whitney-wide climate survey. Distribute the results to the Whitney Lab community. Schedule a meeting of all Whitney Lab community to discuss the survey.
METRICS Survey was created. Response rate was higher than the previous year. Results were distributed. There was a meeting. A plan was produced from this meeting. A report and suggestions were generated.

GOAL Hiring and Recruitment. Identify concrete, evidence-based policies and practices to recruit a diverse community including students, postdocs, faculty, and staff.
METRICS A comprehensive set of policy recommendations produced. All new job ads incorporated these policies. A sample rubric and sample job advertisement was created. A conversation around this set of recommendations. New hires add to the diversity of our community.

GOAL Survey and assess the web site and facilities of the Whitney Lab for inclusivity (e.g. web content, images, content on physical walls) and accessibility (using as guidelines: W3C web standardsADA University guide). Produce a report describing the survey and assessment and any corrective actions taken.
METRICS Was a comprehensive report produced? Did the report address inclusivity and accessibility? Were there corrective actions taken?

GOAL Increase the number of Florida high school students served by Whitney Lab Education Program.
METRICS Currently our Education program serves thousands of K thru 5 students, but usually serves fewer than 200 high school students annually. We aim to reach at least 300 high school students this year concentrating on title 1 high schools or high schools in close proximity to multiple title 1 elementary and middle schools.
